The members of Station 293 would like to Congratulate Lt. Brenning, FF Lowe, & FF Stuart for placing 2nd in the Firefighter Challenge hosted at Rock Bottom. This is the second straight year that station 293 has placed 2nd in the event which helps raise money for the UPMC Mercy Hospital Burn Unit. All together station 293 was represented by 3 teams in the event placing 2nd, 11th, & 13th . Lt. Brenning also ran the Individual Competition where he placed 8th. |

08/11/2010 - Station 293 responded to 2 calls toady. Around 1500 station 293 was dispatched to assist the police with a high tension wire down. 293 Utility responded and assisted with traffic until Duquense Light arrived on scene. During the wire down call station 293 was also alerted to assist 171 (Homestead) with a lock out detail. Station 293 was cancelled before leaving the station. Just after 0300am station 293 dispatched to assist Duquesne Annex in the 400 block of Grandview Avenue with a reported explosion in the basement of a residence. Upon arrival crews from station 294 made quick work of the initial attack due to a broken water pipe in the basement. 293 arrived on scene and assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Just after 0200 in the morning volunteers from Station 293 were dispatched in the first due, to Midway Drive. The Monview Heights Housing Complex, for a reported working structure fire. Upon arrival crews were met with a 6 unit row house with heavy fire in one unit. Command placed the fire under control after 40min. As a precaution one FF from 293 was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated after being struck by falling debris during the initial attack. The ACFM office is investigating the cause of the fire. The Officers and Members would also like to recognize the Heroic actions of the On Duty Security Officer Roderick Lavalle who heroically caught a mother and 3 children who jumped from a second story window after being trapped by the fire. The officer was transported to a local hospital for injuries received during the rescue. We wish him a speedy recovery after a job well done. |
